Ever thought about working in New Zealand? Swap rainy days for your dream career in paradise?
New Zealand provides a wealth of new opportunities for people bringing skills and experience into a country with a rapidly growing economy. In 2017 the number of new jobs advertised in New Zealand grew by a record 8.5%. In HSBC's 2017 Expat Explorer survey, New Zealand was rated sixth in the world for work-life balance. The country also scored highly for job security and career progression, providing a fantastic reason to add moving to the Southern Hemisphere to your New Year’s Resolutions for 2018.
Last year New Zealand was voted the Best Country to Live In for the fourth year running. Survey respondents list the laid-back culture, small population and friendly atmosphere as their favourite aspects of the number one place to live in the world.
The UN ranks New Zealand 13th out of 187 countries in its 2017 Human Development Index, and with 10% more landmass than the UK and less than 10% of the population, New Zealand has plenty of space. Less pressure and richer natural resources means moving to live and work in New Zealand banishes pollution and congestion from daily life and reduces the health issues found in cities around the globe.
Especially in comparison with the UK’s tumultuous weather, New Zealand is warmer, drier and sunnier. Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch all receive a yearly average of more than two thousand years of sunshine, beaten only by other parts of the island. Summer temperatures range from an average of 33-45°C across the country. Similarly, for those missing the white Christmases of the past, those who live and work in New Zealand can enjoy their very own Winter Wonderland. The eastern and southern areas of the South Island see plentiful snowfall, and snow regularly settles in mountainous areas across both islands.
With a wealth of beautiful beaches and a vast assortment of activities, living in New Zealand is often a holiday in its own right. The country offers mountain climbing, skiing, the opportunity to fly stunt planes and a variety of extreme sports including world-famous bungee jumping. Whatever your passion, New Zealand has it all.
