CV Buzzwords for 2019

Employers are always looking for the best talent. Your CV is one of the best ways for you to let potential employers or recruiters know that you’re qualified, engaged, and the best candidate for the job.

Employers will receive dozens if not hundreds of CVs for any position, so it’s important to make your CV as powerful as possible. These words might help you stand out and get through to the interview stage.

Words To Include In Your CV:

Adaptability

Now more than ever jobs are subject to rapid changes due to outside forces. Technology is changing the way we work, the way we interact with each other, and the way we view the world. A new app can change a marketplace overnight. A breakthrough in AI could revolutionise an entire sector. People in any industry need to be able to adapt to new ways of thinking, new ways of doing things, and new environments to stay ahead.

Being able to adapt shows you aren’t locked into one way of working, or only have one set of skills. This is vital in today’s workplace, and can help you stand apart from more experienced candidates who have specialised in one area, and are unable to be as flexible as you.

Analytical Skills

Analytics have been a buzzword in business for a while, thanks to digital technology allowing us to measure every element of how a company is doing. Analytics grant a much deeper level of understanding of how different metrics are performing, and having people who can make sense of the vast amounts of data business generates is crucial to improvement and long-term sustainable growth.

Even if you don’t work solely in data, being able to analyse a situation and make a logical decision about how best to proceed is a valuable skill that all employers are looking for.

Proactive

This has always been a good skill to list on your CV, but now companies are looking more and more for people who can self-reliant and can make decisions on their own. Proactive people are more dynamic, and can make exciting changes that wouldn’t have been made otherwise.

Bold new directions can lead to new growth, and the worst thing a business can be is passive or static. Knowing where improvements can be made, understanding how best to move forward, and making things as efficient as they can be all builds towards success, both for the business, and the individuals involved.

Empathy

Empathy is the ability to relate to other people, and understand how they’re feeling. All businesses, no matter how technical, still rely on human interaction at their core.

Being able to engage with people, understand their needs, and appreciate their feelings is a bonus no matter what sector you work in. It’s the key to building relationships, and is something all management is striving to have more of in their organisations.

Including these words in your CV won’t guarantee you a job, but if you elaborate on examples of how you’ve developed and used these skills, they may help you in your search.
